Thanksgiving Holiday on the Beach
The week of Thanksgiving is a fun time for our family. It
is a time that we begin all our traditions for the holidays.
The girls are out of school for the entire week and we spend
much time cooking, baking, surfing, playing outside or going
to a movie or two. This year dad had a few days off to enjoy
the week with all of us girls.
Friday, the day school got out Richard and I spent time with
the girls at school for the traditional Thanksgiving Feast.
Eating Thanksgiving meal twice in one day within 2 hours is
a little filling but you just can't resist. After leaving
school we went to the movies with Savannah and a few of her
friends. Richard and the girls went to see the new James Bond
movie while Mekenzie and I went to see "Happy Feet".
The weekend came and we spent time down south in Jupiter at
the Jupiter Pro Surf contest and visiting Richard's sister
Cindi and Steve. The water in Jupiter is clear blue green,
very beautiful which is so different than what we have here
in Cocoa Beach. Savannah surfed and got put out in the semi-final.
After a relaxing time on the beach we headed home and surfed
Sebastian Inlet. As we got home later in the afternoon Richard
and I got dressed up and he took me to Orlando for a little
shopping and dinner. He bought me a necklace and some earrings
to go with an outfit he had recently got for me.
On Monday, the surf was starting to happen. We went surfing
in the morning and then off to the grocery store for all of
our holiday food. Our good friend Amy came over to grocery
shop with us and learn a little of how we prepare and cook
our Thanksgiving meal. Tuesday morning Savannah got up and
went surfing then we started preparing each of our dishes.
We had to do this on Tuesday because there was a possibility
that we would have our Thanksgiving on Wednesday instead of
Thursday. We knew that the waves were getting good and the
epic day to surf would be Wednesday and Thursday and on Thursday
we would be traveling down south for a surf contest if the
waves were cooperating. Tuesday we started preparing each
of our dishes. Savannah always makes the sweet potato casserole
and the apple pie along with a few of the other dishes. Mekenzie's
favorite is to stand over the stove and make the cranberry
sauce and pumpkin pie. Our friend Amy did a great job with
learning how to make a few dishes, the squash casserole,(which
was her husband's favorite), green bean casserole, mashed
potatoes and pecan pie. We all love working together cooking
and preparing for our big meal.
We ended up having our Thanksgiving meal on Wednesday night.
This was quite different than any Thanksgiving tradition before
but once we all realized it didn't matter about the day and
time everything was just great. We had a house full of many
friends and family. Sat around and ate, talked and got stuffed...
We spent Thursday, Friday and Saturday in South Florida hoping
for a surf contest to be held. However, the waves never produced
that far south. We met with one of Savannah's Sponors, Viking
Surfboards. The owner (Christian & Vivian, his wife) had
a large gathering at their house with the company employees
and team members. Everyone we met was so unique and extremely
nice people. What a fantastic way to end our Thanksgiving
holidays.
