Cocoa Beach Pier
It's amazing the friends we meet and make along the way in life. With my husband being a fishing guide we have the opportunity to meet new people every day.
Several years ago a Dr. Doug called to book a fishing trip. He said he just needed to get away from the stress of his job and he was coming fishing. The morning of his trip the winds were blowing 40 knots with white caps on the river. Capt. Richard tried to tell Dr. Doug that it was just not the best conditions for fishing. That didn't seem to matter to Dr. Doug. He was here and he just needed to spend time doing something other than work. They left for a day of fishing with Capt. Richard not looking very optimistic. The guys found a spot where there was a little shelter and spent most the day talking and fishing and getting to know each other. As far as the fishing Dr. Doug ended up bringing home some nice redfish and as far as a friendship Richard & Dr. Doug were already buddies.
Dr. Doug lives west of Orlando, he has three awesome kids, and he's always happy. He visits with us often outside of fishing trips and we enjoy having lunch together at Thai Thai Sushi Bar or just hanging out at the Cocoa Beach Pier relaxing and watching the girls surf.
In November of 2006, Dr. Doug and I were contacted by Mark Burnett Productions to be interviewed for the Reality Show "Pirate Master". This was a great honor, for we were told by the producers assistant that the producer hand picked three people to be called and we were two of the three. This was unheard of and we had never even sent in an application, they just found us off lagooner.com website. During the interviewing process we found out that we would be away from our family and jobs for twelve to fifteen weeks, this really sounded like a once in a lifetime opportunity but however for both of us we couldn't leave our businesses and much less keep our families running full steam ahead for that length of time. Well, a few weeks of being on cloud nine and then reality set in. At least we both have something to look back on and laugh together like we were going to be pirates! |
