Raising Chickens in Cocoa Beach

Have you ever held a soft furry chick or have you ever decided to take one home? Always talking of having chickens was something we just talked about until recently. This past Spring Captain Richard surprised us one day by bringing home two fuzzy little chicks. We were so excited. They were adorable, cute and cuddly. Right from the beginning Savannah & Mekenzie chose their chick and gave them their names. Savannah named her chick Ethel and Mekenzie named chick Lucy. They both look a like, except Ethel has a black head.

Lucy and Ethel are such a part of our family now. When you visit us you will always see them playing out in the back yard. They really add to the feel of our home with a relaxing atmosphere back yard filled with, pineapples, coconut trees, mango tree, key lime tree, banana trees, and much more. They have actually been good for the lawn, keeping the bugs out of the grass. Lucy and Ethel are fun to hold, we paint their toe-nails and feed them grapes every morning. They can get a little annoying at times always digging around, but for the most part they haven't destroyed anything. They roam the yard during the day and at dusk return to their coup for the night.

Lucy layed her first egg on October 17, 2007 and we wrote a little about it on this page.

We recently had a chicken thief steal Lucy's sister Ethel and we are presently looking to replace our beloved Ethel with a new baby chick soon. We'll fill you in on our chicken sister(s) from time to time and when they start laying too.
