Kayaking in Cocoa Beach Florida
Each day I always try to learn something new, this particular day I had no purpose other than to have fun kayaking around my Cocoa Beach home with a new friend. To my surprise I found that I learned and had fun with my beautiful new friend Kathleen Bennett.
Kathleen not only has experience on the water but has a great knowledge of the diverse ecosystem of the Indian River Lagoon through her educational training of being a manatee behavioral specialist and author.
Immediately upon meeting Kathleen, with her inviting smile and charming personality, you are drawn into her passion for her ability in teaching others about what she's learned in the marine wildlife habitat. I found myself listening intensely to every word pouring from her lips as we glided through the shallow water mangrove estuaries surrounding Cocoa Beach, called the Thousand Islands.
As I was writing this story my husband glanced over my shoulder and in the typical man's way he said, "wow who wouldn't love to follow a pretty girl in the kayak all day long? She looks like a mermaid!" Well... I don't know about all that, but I saw the manatees repond to her in a positive way as Kathleen would talk to them they responded by following her and coming boat side several times. Now we all know that Columbus described manatees as looking like mermaids, these desperate men had obviously been at sea too long. But the true mermaids of the ten thousand islands are Kathleen and her guides Cinnamon and Ellen.
As Kathleen guided me for a morning of kayaking I realized I had accomplished my three goals for each day. I had met a friend, got exercise, and learned something new. I promise you that if you spend a day on the water with one of these lovely ladies you're experience will be the same. So instead of sitting on the couch and watching TV get off your bottom and get tuned into what God's given us in the great outdoors surrounding Cocoa Beach, Florida.

Kathleen's been guiding knowledge seekers and is a kayaking enthusiast for over a decade, it shows when she's paddling though the grassflats. She is very in tuned to nature and taking care of herself. She often enjoys going to her favorite restaurant, The Siam Orchid (a sushi bar) which is just what she needs after a long day of kayaking in our clear Florida waters.
