Smokehouse Foods, Port Canaveral Florida
One of my favorite places to eat during the day is Smokehouse Foods. From fish dip to turkey legs and anything in between you can order up whatever you like smoked and it will be delicious. Being right at Port Canaveral they have all the local fish to smoke whenever you want it.
As you walk through the doors at Smokehouse you will most likely see the owner, Wes, standing behind the counter ready to take your order. Within seconds you will find his adorable, bubbly, wife, Jackie, pop around the corner saying hello as she checks to see if her husband is behaving himself. There couldn't be a nicer couple that works together and is still sane by closing time. Wes and Jackie are super people, they treat you right and make you feel as if you were sharing a meal with them at home.
Wes and Jackie, have owned the Smokehouse at Port Canaveral since 1996. Two years prior to that their business was in Melbourne where they catered to the wholesale and retail market instead of preparing and serving meals. Jackie was telling me as they moved their business to Port Canaveral, the restaurant just kinda evolved within a year or so from serving fish tacos and pork sandwich's.
Jackie, is truly the heart of their business, she always has a smile and works very hard at keeping the restaurant clean and in order. She will buzz around with lots of energy making sure it's just right. While Wes will keep you entertained with his dry sense of humor, they both are just fun to visit with.
When Wes and Jackie are not working they enjoy being with their horses. For many years Jackie showed cutting horses, (going into a herd of cattle and cutting one out of the heard keeping it separated), this definitely takes some courage. When you are in the restaurant just look on the wall and you'll see a picture of Jackie in action which I think is quit cool.
Smokehouse is definitely home to many locals at Port Canaveral and around town. The perfect place to hang out for a lite lunch or a good hardy meal. It's a deli/restaurant where you can eat and then purchase all kinds of smoked meats and dips to take home and enjoy.
