One of the most well known local establishments at Port Canaveral is Grills Seafood and Tiki Bar. On any given day you will find everyone from mom and pop, couples, singles, families and children to the elite group of charter captains enjoying fresh catches of the day. While visiting Florida's Space Coast Grills is a great place for being served up delicious seafood in a relaxed layed back island style atmosphere.
The owner, Capt. Joe Penovich, started Grills restaurant from an idea that came while on charter his fishing boat, the Obsession. Visitors would often ask "where is the best seafood restaurant in Cocoa Beach?" It was a little difficult for Capt. Joe to respond with an answer. However, he was always eager to "show off" some of his backyard grilled fish. With many years of fishing and the experience of preparing a tasty catch in his special marinades the idea for Grills was born. I can remember some of the first beginnings of Grills starting with the Tiki Bar, then an open air Bahamian style deck to a unique setting over looking the harbor of Port Canaveral.
With having a fleet of charter boats behind Grills at Sunrise Marina, which Capt. Joe also owns, you are always assured to have fresh fish. There's nothing like coming in from a day of fishing and enjoying a savory fish sandwich or even having your catch grilled up to perfection.
You can enjoy Grills being an early riser for breakfast, having lunch with a friend, or dinner in the evening with the charter boats returning from the day showing off their fine catches or watching the cruise ships set sail and often times experience the thrill of seeing a space shuttle being launched into space. Later in the evening when things get heated up there's still plenty of fun to be had at the Tiki Bar with cocktails, dancing, and a live band being mixed in with the locals and those visiting Port Canaveral and the Space Coast. |
