Richard and Savannah at the beaches of St. Augustine, the oldest city in Florida.

St. Augustine Beach
Surfing at the Pier

Walking along the shoreline with the sand between my toes brought back fond memories as a child playing in the water and making drip sand castles. Coming over the dunes at St. Augustine seeing the long beaches and stepping onto the firm sand reminded me very much of what Cocoa Beach was like when I was just a kid. The type of sand here makes for the perfect place to create the coolest sand castle or a great time riding your bike for miles.

I had not been to the beaches of St. Augustine since I was young. My father and mother vacationed with us throughout the State of Florida. From the Florida Keys to the Panhandle, along the East Coast to the West Coast so we could enjoy many experiences and sites of our beautiful sunshine state. St. Augustine was a place I visited at a young age and I really couldn't remember what the beach was like but I never forgot the big Castle that was in the town, Castillo de San Marcos.

St. Augustine Pier continues out a ways and stands tall above the water making it easy to see all kinds of sea creatures swimming through the ocean. Usually where there is structure in the water it makes for a great surfing spot. The Pier is a very popular place for surfers and fisherman alike.

We enjoyed a nice weekend where Savannah surfed in the St. Augustine First Annual National Kidney Foundation Surf Fest. She had a fantastic time surfing the women's pro division receiving third place and being with family and friends. In the evening we enjoy a fine meal at Harry's just across from the Castillo de San Marcos and later treating ourselves to homemade ice cream and fudge made by one of the locals on cottage row.

Walking the Beaches of St. Augustine, Florida

Enjoying a morning walk on the beach is just what I needed to start my day off.

Spending the weekend with family and friends at the St. Augustine First Annual National Kidney Foundation Surf Fest held at the Pier was a nice getaway during the summer.
