Jetty Park at Port Canaveral, Florida
There comes times when our week has been hectic and our family just wants to get out and enjoy sleeping under the stars. When this happens, we find it extremely easy to pack our bags along with the cooler and load up the car with camping gear to head up the street not far from our home in Cocoa Beach for a quick over night stay camping at Jetty Park in Port Canaveral for the night.
Sitting at a campfire roasting marshmallows is a great way for us to relax into the weekend after a full out week of non-stop work. We all enjoy being at the beach and camping so the closest spot for us is basically right in our back yard. It's kind of nice that we can throw together a night and call a few friends to join us for a barbeque and smores whether they just enjoy the food and go home or decide to pitch a tent and stay.
Besides camping in a tent or RV there's plenty else to do at Jetty Park. The rugged rock jetty, which people use to fish off of as I was growing up, now has a pier making it much easier and safer to fish from. There are picnic areas, a great playground, tackle store and beach snack bar. While fishing or picnicking you can watch the cruise ships come in and also see manatees and dolphins playing in the water. You'll see many charter fishing boats returning to port with their catches of the day. You might like to take a drive back to the docks at Sunrise Marina or Cape Marina to see some pretty remarkable fish caught out of Port Canaveral. |
