©Captain Richard took this photograph of the pier from his boat one beautiful day.
I often come down to the pier in the mornings and watch the sun come up when it's nice outside. There's nobody there except for a few workers and surfers catching the glassy breakers before heading off to their busy days. The seagulls enjoy the tranquility of the empty handrails and so do I.
Parking at the Pier
The first obstacle to overcome for the pier visitor is the parking. The pier offers parking for a pricea and at the time of writing this in January of 2005 the prices are usually $5.00 per day and occassionally less during the slower months or much more during special events like the Easterfest or Beach Boy Concerts. You can always pay the City of Cocoa Beach a nominal fee at the parking meters $1.00 per hour or 25 cents every fifteen minutes. As a local I prefer to purchase an annual parking pass for $25.00 per year for non-residents or $5.00 for locals (as of 2008).
The locals around Cocoa Beach use the pier and surrounding beaches for very few things except for surfing, some fishing, volleyball, special events and watching the girls in their bikinis (always a favorite). The restaruants and bars are pricey and the food is so-so, but you just can't beat the atmosphere if you can wade thru the crowds of people, it's always fun to hang on the rail of the pier and people watch. |
